Intertextile Beijing – China International Trade Fair for Apparel Fabrics & Accessories
28 – 30 March 2006, Beijing Exhibition Centre

Exceptional market conditions for Intertextile Beijing 2006

China soaring clothing exports fuels textile imports

Press release

As experts predicted, the recent global textile trade restructuring has resulted in an unprecedented boom for the Chinese textile industry. The country is now very attractive market for domestic and overseas textile suppliers. It is amid these exceptional market conditions that Intertextile Beijing, the leading international trade fair for apparel fabrics and accessories in China 's north and north-east, will return to the Beijing Exhibition Centre from 28 March – 30 March 2006 .

Soaring clothing exports in China

China has been the world's largest garment producer for a few years now, but the last 11 months have been especially productive. This surge is the direct effect of the quota abolition. Clothing exports have soared by 22 percent during the first seven months of 2005.

Domestic consumption of textiles booming

The fast development in garment manufacturing is not only due to the increase in apparel exports but also to booming consumption of clothing domestically. According to the China National Bureau of Statistics, China 's retail sales rose almost 13 percent year-on-year to US$71 billion in October 2005 and clothing sales rose by an impressive 24 percent. Lower taxes for farmers, raise of the minimum wage and plans to lift income-tax thresholds can only encourage Chinese to spend more.

Increase in textile imports to China

Although, China 's production of apparel textiles has increased, the nation is still not able to cover all its needs, which leads to a growth in apparel textile imports. From January to November 2005, China 's imports of silk has increased by nine percent and wool seven percent year-on-year.

Intertextile Beijing gives manufacturers and suppliers of all types of apparel textiles and accessories the opportunity to launch or expand sales into China 's north and north-eastern regions. It also caters to international dealers and retailers who want to source from a huge range of textile products. Beijing is an important location for the textile trade as it is central to China 's north and north-eastern region which remains a strong importer of a variety of textile products.

The fair has continued to grow in size and importance since its debut in 2001. Visitor numbers were up six percent at the 2005 show totalling 17,365 from 76 countries and regions. Exhibitor numbers have also increased with 562 companies participating; six percent more than in 2004.

Intertextile Beijing is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, The Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT and China Textile Information Centre.
